Ninjitsu
Most people don’t realize that Ninjitsu is NOT NinjUtsu… This is a common misunderstanding and generalization from Hollywood movies etc. In fact many practitioners of Ninjutsu find the comparison distasteful and offensive. The original martial art from Japan came about from a disgruntled sub class of men that some say were “dishonored” Samurai. This meant that they had been banished from their lords army for an offence of some kind. Ninjitsu as an American adaption and as such follows no strict adherence to any particular style or code of combat. Basically “anything” goes. What is really interesting is that most American Ninjutsu purists started out learning about Ninjitsu because they saw it on a movie… or heard about it through a friend… and then fell in love with the original artform. Some even move to Japan and start to follow in the footsteps of Hatsumi, the founder of Bujinkan and some say, the last REAL LIVING Ninja! (Video of hatsumi below): Many martial art schools in America today teach Ninjitsu with traditional weapons training (swords, knives, staff, nun-chuck) and some non traditional weapons training (taking a gun from an armed suspect, using bear spray to blind an attacker). Also, something else really interesting is CLOAKED WEAPONS training. This basically involves turning something that is not considered dangerous or threatening by most people into a deadly object.
